FACTS ABOUT ITRD

International Transport Research Documentation has at its heart the ITRD database - a co-operative World-wide database of published Information on Transport and Transport Research.

Since 1972 the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Road Transport Research Program has overseen the development of the ITRD in its mission to facilitate the sharing of published information and ongoing research in the transportation field.

Input to the ITRD database is provided by more than 30 renowned institutes and organisations from more than 23 countries in one of the four ITRD languages through the appropriate ITRD language Co-ordinating Centre.

English: TRL Limited, Crowthorne, UK
French: INRETS (Institute National de Recherche sur les Transports et leur Securite), Arcueil, France
German: Bundesanstalt für Strassenwesen, Bergisch Gladbach, Germany
Spanish: Centro de Estudios y Experimentación de Obras Públicas, Madrid, Spain

Full Contact details and links to websites can be found here.

Overlap and reinventing the wheel can perhaps be avoided and new ideas and technologies made accessible on a timely basis through the sharing of research and experience made possible by ITRD.

More than 350 000 bibliographical references on transport research literature and ongoing research are now available electronically via the Internet or other complementary channels such as the Transport CD-ROM.

Each record contains an informative abstract, from the world's published literature on transport (reports, books, journal articles, conference proceedings). A second type of reference is based on research in progress.

More than 10 000 references are added each year. One of the unique aspects of ITRD is the fact that there are the 4 official languages represented in the database, English, French, German and Spanish, and each record is available in one of these languages. The quadrilingual thesaurus though allows all the records to be searched by using the term code which is the same whatever the language of abstract.

You don't have to be a member of ITRD to search the database - see Access for details of how the database can be easily searched online via the Internet. However being a member of ITRD does bring with it many advantages as listed under the Membership section of this website.

ITRD is administered by TRL Limited on behalf of OECD.
